END OF OPERATIONS IN MOUDON
Having failed to reach an agreement with the Canton of Vaud, ELSA ceased operations at the Moudon cheese factory on 30 April 2010.
ELSA and the Moudon cheese factory enjoyed almost six years of successful operations. In 2004, the company recommissioned the "Ecole de Fromagerie", whose premises remained the property of the Canton of Vaud. The aim? To continue production of Gruyère AOC, consolidate skills in soft cheese making and develop new products.
Although these aims were successfully achieved, and despite our willingness to invest in the purchase and renovation of the premises, the offer made by ELSA was declined, leading directly to the cessation of operations at the site and the loss of 9 jobs. The Canton of Vaud eventually reached an agreement with Fromagerie Bettex in Champtauroz to take over production of the soft cheese brands. To ensure this transfer is completed smoothly, ELSA and Fromagerie Bettex will work closely together to minimise disruption.
